چکیده

The importance of particle size ratio and particle composition in the properties of a mixed bed is well known. Nevertheless, the dependence of the ed channel tortuosity T on the porosity ε in the form T= 1/εn, where n is assumed to be a constant, shows that the value of n depends on the properties f the packed bed. For loose packing, experimental data for binary mixtures of glass beads of a size ratio from 1 up to 53.8 was analysed in terms f porosity, tortuosity and permeability. The packing procedure was performed without intensive compacting methods e.g. vibration, etc. Obtained esults show that the parameter n is a function of the volume fraction of large particles x and, for spherical particles, lies in the range 0.4–0.5. The D xplanation for this variation is (1) a distortion effect on the small particles arrangement occurring near the large particle surface; (2) in the region f minimum porosity, near contact points of large particles, the occurrence of dead zones that are free of small particles. A relationship accounting or this effect is proposed that may be useful for the analysis of transport phenomena in granular bed filters, chromatographic columns, etc. 2006 Elsevier B.V. Study of Pressure Drop in the 2D Spouted Bed with Conical Base of Binary Particle Mixtures: Effects of Particle Size and Density

In this study, the pressure drop for the binary mixtures of particles differing in size and density in a pseudo-2D spouted bed was experimentally studied. A binary mixture of solid particles including sand, Gypsum, and polyurethane was used in the experimental setup. Effects of static bed height, cone angle, particles diameter, and a particles weight fraction on the bed pressure drop were e...

Permeability and effective thermal conductivity of bisized porous media

In the region of minimum porosity of particulate binary mixtures, heat exchange and permeability were found to be higher than the ones obtained with a mono-size packing built with the same small size particles used in the binary packing. This effect was noticed in the range of the particles size ratio 0.1–1.0. The obtained improvement on thermal performance is related to the increase of effecti...

Semi Empirical Calculation of Intermolecular Potentials and Transport Properties of Some Binary and Ternary Industrial Refrigerant Mixtures

In this study the intermolecular potential energies of some environment-friendly industrial HFC refrigerants were obtained through the inversion method which is based on the corresponding states principle. These potentials were later employed in calculation of transport properties (viscosity, diffusion, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusion factor) of some binary and ternary refrigerant mi...

Improvement of Methanol Synthesis Process through a Novel Sorption-Enhanced Fluidized-bed Reactor, Part I: Mathematical Modeling

In the first part of two section paper, a mathematical model of the fluidized bed reactor in the presence of in-situ water adsorbent for methanol synthesis is assessed. The bubbling two-phase regime is applied to model the fluidization concept. The binary adsorbent and catalyst particles system can be separated from each other based on their density difference. The heavy catalyst particles tend...

Comparison of the Effects of Fixed Bed and Fluidized Bed Drying on Physical Property Changes of Spherical Food Material Using Peas as a Model Material

Changes in the physical properties (such as particle density, bulk density of the bed, shrinkage and bed porosity of fresh green peas particulates were compared at 50 o C, during fluidized bed drying and fixed bed drying. Empirical relationships of the following nature were developed for the changes in shrinkage [VR = A + B MR], particle density [ρ p = A + B MR + C exp (-DMR)], and bulk density...
